Platelet Rich Plasma is a fairly new technology with many different applications.
PRP has been used in orthopedics for years, to improve healing. In fact, Tiger Woods used this technology in 2008, to help him recover quickly from his knee surgery.
It also has applications in hair transplantation and in facial aesthetics, as PRP can be used either alone, or with fat or fillers, to produce more long lasting, and perhaps even permanent improvement in wrkinkles and depressions.
PRP is a process by which your own blood is drawn, and then separated by a process called centrifugation, to isolate a layer of platelets. Within the platelet layer, there are numerous proteins which act in the body as growth factors. These factors are chemicals which recruit other cells in the body to help you heal. When these concentrated proteins are then injected into your body, they promote healing, and also help fat cells or fillers last longer. PRP can also be used as a stand alone treatment for wrinkles, hair loss, and orthopedic injuries, but we believe that it is most beneficial, when combined with hair transplantation or fillers, as they work syngergistically together, to give you a better result.
There are no long term studies to confirm this, but the treatments are completely safe, as you are using your own tissue, just concentrating the important protein factors where and when you need them.
