Question:
Is panniculectomy different from a tummy tuck? What exactly is it?
Answer:
A tummy tuck is a bigger procedure than a panniculectomy. The panniculectomy is a term used to describe the excision of what is called an abdominal pannus which is just a large abdominal collection of skin and fat.
In a panniculectomy you merely excise the pannus without undermining the skin and fat all the way up to the rib cage and re-positioning the belly button and tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall which is what a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty would do.
