Question:
I see hair loss often referred to a Norwood III or a Norwood IV. What exactly is this?
Answer:
The Norwood Scale is a rough guideline to categorize the amount of hair loss in male pattern baldness. It is not exact and many patients find that they do not fall neatly into one classification or another. This is just a rough estimate as to the amount of male pattern baldness that you are manifesting. A type III Norwood pattern is someone who has very high temple recess whereas in a type IV the temple recesses are worse and there is balding in the vertex or crown area as well.
