Question:

My breasts are much too large and seem out of proportion with the rest of my body.  I get yeast infections, backaches, painful shoulders and unpleasant stares from men.  I am 17 years old and wonder if many women my age get reduction mammoplasty?  Is it possible my breasts are still growing and will continue to grow after reduction surgery?

Answer:

Many girls your age do undergo breast reduction mammoplasty because they get almost immediate symptomatic relief.  However, a small percentage of patients will have a recurrence of their macromastia, which is the term for large breasts.  The incidence are small enough that I would not delay the procedure in a 17 year old who is having significant symptoms.
