Question:
I am a 22-year-old female with what my friend told me are tuberous breasts. What is the reconstruction process like for this type of breast?
Answer:
The usual procedure for tuberous breasts involves some undermining of the breast tissue off the pectoralis muscle with radial scoring of the breast tissue to allow an expansion of the constricted breast tissue, which is what a tuberous breast is. Then, underneath the newly expanded breast parenchyma, which is the breast tissue, a breast implant is placed under the muscle. This is the most common procedure for tuberous breast; however, you do need to be seen by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who can evaluate you and inform you of all the alternatives for you personally.
