Question:

I am a long distance runner and I have a marathon exactly 28 weeks after my breast augmentation surgery.  Is this a reasonable amount of time between surgery and my race?

Answer:

My concern is the time period for which you need to be training.  If you were my patient and you underwent a breast augmentation, I would tell you to stop all type of physical activity or exercise for two weeks.  I would let you resume vigorous training for your marathon at four weeks and then you could resume heavy lifting at six weeks.

This is a personal preference of mine and each physician is a little bit different.  I know some physicians who allow their patients to do aerobic exercise as early as two weeks after breast augmentation.  It is just my personal preference to wait three to four weeks before resuming vigorous aerobic exercise and six weeks for heavy lifting.
This is a conservative approach and I am sure other surgeons will tell you that you can be a little more aggressive in terms of your return to exercise.
