Question:

I have been doing some research into thigh lift procedures and have come across something called scar migration a few times.  Can you explain what this is?  Is it something that always happens or can it be prevented in any way?

Answer:

Scar migration is where the scar actually changes position over time due to the effects of gravity and the weight of the skin on the closure.  It does not always occur, and in fact, it only happens in a small percentage of patients.  The way to minimize, although you cannot eliminate the risk, is by doing a multilayered closure which helps reduce the incidence of scar migration or widening.
